Public Discussion in “Women’s Role in Peace and Democracy Building”

On March 17, Dean of the Caucasus School of Governance and the Director of the Institute of Peace Studies Eka Akobia participated in a public discussion “Women’s Role in Peace and Democracy Building” organized with the support of UNDP and the Government of Sweden. The event was held in the framework of the information campaign” Steps Towards Gender Equality”, which aims to build democratic society based on the principles of equality and inclusion. Teona Akubardia, the Member of the Parliament of Georgia was also participating in a discussion.

Discussion was opened by Nino Doborjginidze, Rector of Ilia State University, Nick Beresford, UNDP Resident Representative in Georgia and John Dipirro, International Republican Institute’s (IRI) Resident Program Director in Georgia.

Eka Akobia’s report was focused on women’s participation in various spheres in a democratic society and the importance of women’s involvement in peace-building and security issues. Participants of the meeting also discussed ongoing war in Ukraine and International Community’s response to this war, as well as, the women’s role and importance of identifying special needs they face during the war.
